culturitical
Join our talk with Edna Bonhomme, a critic, historian of science, and journalist. Her work explores the intersections of science, history, health, and society, drawing on her background in biology, public health, and history.
She is the author of A History of the World in Six Plagues and Tending to Our Wounds: A Diasporic Memoir. Across these two books, Bonhomme examines how histories of colonialism, racism, and social inequality shape disease, healthcare, and medicine. From epidemic outbreaks and public health crises to the personal and collective wounds of colonial violence, she traces how these histories continue to shape Black lives and experiences across the United States, Haiti, and Germany.
Bringing together historical research and personal reflection, Bonhomme asks whose health and lives are prioritised, whose suffering is overlooked, and how healthcare systems can reproduce existing inequalities.
